With the introduction of characters like Anos Voldigoad, we go back to the same old conversation of whether X character is the strongest anime character ever. And like, I get it. Anos Voldigoad from The Misfit Of Demon King is definitely pulling up some numbers when it comes to power and strength. But I feel like that just become the standard for most of these newer anime coming out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a hater. I just think a character like that has a lot to prove.
So, is Anos Voldigoad the strongest anime character ever? Nope, not really! I can think of at least 4 other anime characters that can easily overpower him. And it’s not even like they’d surpass him in sheer strength alone. A lot of these characters specifically target characters like Anos, who happens to be demonic in nature. So, when you couple that and power beyond measure, it doesn’t feel like Anos would really stand a chance against them. A good hit with some Angelic powers, and it feels like Anos would be ratio’d in no time.
But, like, I also understand why this character is getting so much hype as being just absurdly powerful. It’s because he is. Like, arguably, Anos Voldigoad is the strongest character in The Misfit Of Demon King. He’s the strongest Demon King to come out yet, and the only time he has been recorded as being defeated was when he willingly sacrificed himself. So, technically, the man is undefeated. But for all his amazing powers and prowess, he is still a demon. And like most demons, he has weaknesses that can be exploited.
Maybe not by the characters already present in the anime, but what about from various other franchises? You bet! All it takes is some creative thinking, and perhaps a little boost of Holy power, and you have a pretty good idea of what characters Anos stands no chance against. So, in today’s Character Analysis, let’s discuss why Anos Voldigoad isn’t the strongest anime character ever, not even close!

Anos Voldigoad: The Demon King Who Killed The God Of Time

So, before we can see what weaknesses Anos holds, we need to know about the man as a whole. And the simple explanation for that is that Anos Voldigoad is yet another one of those fantasy anime protagonists that is OP (Overpowered) to the max. And at some point, being that excessively talented rubs off as less impressive, more trope-y.
Because like, let’s face it, Anos is pretty darn powerful. He not only hosts numerous superhuman abilities but happens to be near indestructible. After all, he’s the reincarnation of an already feared Demon King from 2000 years ago. And despite being a hybrid, he has shown the Demon King Academy that the potential he holds is rivaled by none. I mean, one of his titles before reincarnation was the Demon King Of Tyranny, because he was just so overbearing and cruel in his sheer strength.
So, when he gave up his life for the peace of the realm, many people thought that was the end. That no one would ever come close to the Demon King that had gone by. That is until the Magical Age happened and Anos was reincarnated into the protagonist we know today. And Anos is aware of how no one comes close to his power, not even his descendants. He stands a class apart because of his magical prowess, which enables him to be extremely self-confident in his capabilities.
Speaking of, his powers are nothing to discount, considering this is the same Anos that took down the literal God Of Time. Anos was shown as being more than a little chaotic, but that isn’t just a character trait, but his very blood. As a Voligoad, destruction is his birthright. As in, Death and Destruction are directly what feeds them as they are growing in the womb. In fact, it’s why Anos had a considerable boost in his powers from his birth. Because his mother died during childbirth, it fueled his need for destruction and death which, I have to say, is pretty morbid.
His magical powers are so immense, that they can’t even be properly measured. In The Misfit Of Demon King, power levels are gauged through a Power Crystal, which is completely shattered in Anos’s case. And let me remind you that Anos himself has admitted that he holds a lot of his power back. So, we haven’t even seen the full scale of how his powers can manifest.
And, of course, he has your usual super speed, super strength, and immense knowledge of all things spells and magic. Combine all of these factors, and it’s not hard to see why people think Anos Voldigoad is the strongest anime character that ever existed. Like, it’s a bit ridiculous how much power he holds.
Why Anos Voldigoad Doesn’t Cut It As Invincible Demon Lord:

I know this directly contradicts everything I’ve written above but hear me out. Despite Anos Voldigoad being possibly the strongest demonic anime character, I still think there are plenty of characters that can easily get the jump on him. Solely because, as a demon, he does have enough inconsistencies that a truly well-versed foe can exploit.
I’m not going to lie, the moment I realized this, Angewomon from Digimon Adventure came to mind. I’m a veteran weeb, so cut me some slack! But honestly, Angel Type Digimon such as Angemon and Angewomon can easily use their divine powers to counter Anos’s demonic ones. And just in case they need the extra boost, they can Digivolve into their more powerful forms as Ophanimon and HolyAngemon, leaving no room for error. I mean, they are technically the Gods of the Digimon World, so either one of them will be more than capable!
But what if we want to play around with characters in similar universes? Well then, Fairy Tail would work perfectly with its Mage-based combat system. And in it, Ezra Scarlet could really give Anos a run for his money. She’s an S-Class Mage, who has flame-based attacks that she could use to counter Anos, who also deals with fire-based magic. But perhaps her biggest asset is her ability to swap between 100 armors. And if she dons the Nakagami Armor, which can completely nullify an opponent’s magic? Well, it’s all over for Anos then!
Okay, but let’s say we want to make things a little more even. What if we want to bring the fantasy element closer to what it is like in The Misfit Of Demon King Academy? Well, even in those settings, there is a character that can overpower Anois Voligoad, without technically lifting a finger. As much as I hate the whole ‘Super OP’ trope, it sure does come in handy for Rimuru Tempest from That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime. Like, no offense, but if I was a slime capable of absorbing all the power in the world just by consumption, I would also lord it over everyone. And Anos is super smart and all, but the moment Rimuru gets the jump on him, it’s all over. It might be cutting it close, but there’s a reason why you see Rimuru in those ‘Most Powerful Anime Character’ lists, despite being a fairly newer addition.
So, yeah. There are plenty of characters out there that prove that Anos Voldigoad isn’t the strongest character in all of anime. These are just a few I could name off the top of my head.
Why The Strongest Character Anime Trope Is Getting Old:

Okay so, here’s a real question. Why do we compare these characters in the first place? I mean, it’s fun, don’t get me wrong. But I feel like at some point it stopped being entertaining and just became a measuring contest.
Now it feels like the characters are being written as ultra great for the sake of being put on these ‘Most OP Anime Character’ lists and nothing more. It just feels like their status as being one of the strongest isn’t earned, but rather forced upon them so they could cover any plot holes. We’ve discussed how many characters like this before and it feels like they end up too perfect. Think Mary Sues of the Isekai world. And honestly? I’m fairly tired of them.
That’s not to say there aren’t some well-written characters that truly feel frightening in their abilities, but also show good writing skills from the mangaka. Characters like Gojo Satoru and Ryomen Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen are genuinely powerful in the story, but they never feel one-dimensional. And that’s just a testament to how power does not equal influence or intimidation. It’s a testament to the quality of writing being offered.
So, it doesn’t matter if Anos Voldigoad is the so-called strongest anime character if it doesn’t feel earned.
