All Deaths In Mushoku Tensei

Separate Mushoku Tensei's main-story deaths from Oldeus's doomed future, including Paul, Roxy, Sylphie, Eris, and the different endings for Rudeus himself.

All Deaths In Mushoku Tensei

Paul, Sauros, Pax, and other characters die in the main story of Mushoku Tensei, but Roxy's petrification and Sylphie's failed-coup death belong to Oldeus's doomed future. Eris has two different endings: she dies protecting Oldeus in the diary, while the changed story lets her grow old. Rudeus eventually dies of old age, not in the same circumstances as the elderly traveler.

Spoiler warning: This guide follows Rifujin na Magonote's original web novel, including its ending. It covers named deaths around Rudeus's story and separates the future diary from the main timeline, rather than treating ancient history, unnamed casualties, and alternate futures as one fixed death count.

Deaths Before the Future Diary

These losses have already happened by the time Oldeus arrives. His warning does not undo Paul or the victims of the Teleportation Incident.

Character What happens Story milestone
Rudeus's previous self Dies in the traffic accident before his reincarnation. Prologue
Philip and Hilda Boreas Greyrat Die after being teleported into a conflict zone. Ghislaine confirms finding their bodies. Teleportation Incident aftermath; WN 62
Laws Sylphie's father is confirmed dead, but Rudeus has not learned the exact cause. Fittoa casualty records; WN 62
Derrick Redbat Ariel's guardian mage dies protecting her from a monster during the Teleportation Incident. Ariel's account; WN 173
Sauros Boreas Greyrat Is executed after being made to bear responsibility for the Fittoa disaster. Return to Fittoa; WN 62
Gablin Is killed by a monster while Rudeus delays intervening in his party's fight. Demon Continent forest expedition; WN 31
Blaze and his party Are killed by the giant cobra encountered in the forest. Demon Continent forest expedition; WN 31
Paul Greyrat Dies protecting Rudeus during the hydra battle to rescue Zenith. Teleport Labyrinth; WN 125

Philip and Hilda are Eris's parents. Their deaths are reported after the disaster; Sauros's execution is a separate political consequence.

Paul's death also needs its own place in the chronology. Roxy survives the labyrinth expedition. The rat-borne illness that kills her in the diary comes later, after her marriage to Rudeus.

Deaths in the Changed Main Story

Oldeus's intervention averts particular catastrophes. It does not remove later battles, political deaths, or the end of a natural lifespan.

Character What happens Story milestone
Reida Reia Orsted kills her during the confrontation at the Asura court. Asura succession; WN 185
Auber Corvette Rudeus, Eris, and Ghislaine defeat him while he protects Darius. Ghislaine delivers the final blow in the web novel. Asura succession; WN 185
Darius Silva Ganius Ghislaine kills him after Auber falls. Asura succession; WN 185
Pax Shirone Dies by suicide during the Shirone crisis. Shirone conflict and aftermath; WN 210
Gal Farion Dies after fighting Eris and Ruijerd, whose cooperation defeats him. Beheiril campaign; WN 251
Malta Dies fighting Badigadi in the Fighting God Armor after helping cover the retreat. Beheiril withdrawal; death confirmed in WN 259
Geese Nukadia Dies from burns caused by Rudeus's fire magic. Beheiril campaign; WN 258
Eris Greyrat Dies naturally before Rudeus, after a life that does not repeat her diary fate. Main-story ending
Rudeus Greyrat Dies of old age at seventy-four. Main-story ending and the Asura biographical interlude

Auber's death is a group victory, not a solo kill by Rudeus. Likewise, Atofe and Kalman II are not Malta's killers in the final confrontation: they fight against Badigadi alongside him.

Geese's death ends his part in the campaign, not Hitogami's existence. Hitogami remains active when Rudeus's own life ends. The distant conflict involving Orsted and Rudeus's descendants is not a battle Rudeus finishes by personally killing the Man-God.

Pax's death is not a simple verdict on Roxy's teaching or proof that one person's rejection caused everything. The Shirone crisis involves his isolation, family relationships, and the political collapse around him.

Deaths in Oldeus's Doomed Future

The diary records an experienced future, not a list of unavoidable deaths. The Oldeus timeline comparison follows the warning that changes it.

Character Fate in the diary Story milestone
Roxy and her unborn child Are lost to the petrifying magic-stone illness after the escaped rat contaminates food. Rudeus returns with the cure too late. Rat trap and failed cure journey; WN 154-155
Cliff Dies during the attempt to obtain Roxy's cure. Millis journey; WN 155
Sylphie and Luke Die after accompanying Ariel in her failed bid for the Asura throne. Rudeus finds their bodies after the defeat. Failed Asura coup; WN 155
Eris Dies protecting Oldeus during the confrontation with Atofe and her guards. Oldeus's search for Hitogami; WN 156
Zanoba, Julie, Ginger, and Aisha Are killed in the temple-knight attack recorded in the diary. Later diary losses; WN 156
Oldeus Dies after the time-travel attempt leaves his body fatally damaged. He delivers the warning before dying. Arrival in the younger Rudeus's present; WN 154

Roxy's death is an illness; Sylphie's is a political tragedy; Eris's is a death in battle. They are not three casualties of the same fight or disease. Ariel is reported captured and awaiting execution after the failed coup; Luke and Sylphie's bodies are already among those displayed after the defeat.

Lucy, Norn, and Lilia's absence from later diary entries is not confirmation that they were all killed. The record has gaps.

Who Survives the Changed Timeline?

Roxy survives the rat scheme because younger Rudeus freezes the basement before opening it. He prevents exposure rather than resurrecting her after the illness. Hitogami's motive for targeting her pregnancy explains why such a small action has such large consequences.

Sylphie survives the changed Asura campaign, which succeeds with Rudeus and his allies involved. Eris reunites with Rudeus after the Orsted rematch, before that Asura campaign. Her reunion is not a second version of the later Atofe fight in Oldeus's diary.

The web novel's final installment leaves Roxy and Sylphie alive after Rudeus. Eris has died naturally before him. Averting the doomed future gives them different lives, not immunity from death.

Where Turning Point 4 Fits

Turning Point 4 is the point where Oldeus's warning exposes the future Rudeus must avoid. The official anime site names Season 3 Episode 11 "Turning Point 4"; that preview is not confirmation that the entire diary or later main-story deaths appear in the episode.

The story milestones above identify where the web novel establishes a fate. They are not predictions of anime episodes.
