Okay so, it’s no surprise that all the deaths in Mushoku Tensei are important. I mean, the series is an Isekai with high stakes, so a little dying here and there keeps things interesting. Besides, it makes you think twice about being attached to any one character, considering how you might never know where their fate ends up leading them. I mean, this is one series where even the main protagonist isn’t as safe.
But if we are just looking at the light novel versions alone, all the deaths in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation come up to a total of 33 deaths. Which, for characters that are identifiable and have significance in the plot? That’s a decent number of individuals passing away. But considering the setting is a fantasy Isekai with war at the forefront, it isn’t unimaginable or even that shocking. But how do these deaths rank up against each other?
Obviously, not all of the deaths in Mushoku Tensei are equal. Some died noble deaths while others were subject to ridicule. Some people died of natural causes and others were taken from us far too soon. But ultimately all of them were special enough to make their deaths count, despite the mass casualties during the Human-Demon War. But of course, some were more memorable than others, either because of who they are or due the way they died.
But if we had to sit down and see how one person’s death holds up against another, it might feel a little left field. But this wouldn’t be the first time we’re ranking deaths on this website anyways! So today, let’s take a gander at all the deaths in Mushoku Tensei and how they stack up against one another in another round of Get Ranked! There will be some controversial choices here, so buckle up for a wild ride.
Blaze
Sadly. Blaze was a literal pig to the slaughter.
This B-Rank Adventurer was known to be fearsome, lauded for his leadership skills at the head of the Super Blaze party, but eventually his career’s dangerous setting caught up to him.
While on a quest, Blaze was killed by a Red Fang Cobra.
Chaos
A crafty individual from the Mad Dragon Tribe, Chaos was more than just a mere foot soldier. As one of the Five Dragon Generals under the First Dragon God and the leader of the Anti-Demon faction, you’d think Chaos would last longer.
But he passed away after creating the doll that cursed Rudeus’s household.
Geese Nukadia
It’s always the fun ones that betray your trust, isn’t it? Geese Nukadia was such an interesting character when you think about it. Despite having zero combat skills, he made it to S-Rank as an adventurer.
He seemed kind and jovial, and was a real ally to Rudeus when he needed one. But of course, all of his good will turned out to be a lie as Geese was revealed to be one of Hitogami’s apostles. And eventually, he lost his life during the last battle against Hitogami in the Beheiril Kingdom.
Crystal
Another one of the Five Dragon Generals, Crystal was from the Sturdy Dragon Tribe. But his main claim to fame later became being the father of Perugias Dola.
But alas, he never got to see his child sired with Dora, another Dragon General, grow up as he was found dead with his escorts near a Golden Dragon’s nest.
Auber Corvette
Auber Corvette might’ve been known for being one of the Three Swords Of The North God, but that didn’t exempt him from death.
The ‘Peacock Sword’ was tasked with assassinating Ariel Anemoi Asura, but was thwarted by Rudeus Greyrat in each attempt. Ultimately, it was Rudeus that killed him.
Dale
Dale was one of those Adventurers who dreamt lofty fantasies of becoming legendary in the field. And his optimism and passion led him to becoming the leader of the Rikarisu gang, adopting the moniker of ‘Hawkendale’ simply because it sounded cool.
What wasn’t cool was how he met his death, being crushed by a landslide before his life as a warrior had truly even begun.
Roman
You know what I hate? Pet stealers! They are a menace to society, like how do you justify kidnapping someone’s fur baby? That’s why I was so glad to see the leader of the P-Hunters, Roman, get his due diligence.
The P-Hunters were notorious for abducting pets and then returning them to collect the bounty their owners put up. And so, when Rudeus caught the infamous group, he tried to run, only to be stricken down by Ruijerd.
Dora
Just like her mate, Crystal, Dora also ended up going through an early death. She was one of the finest Dragon Generals, beautiful and magnanimous. And her union with another Dragon General, Crystal, was celebrated throughout as they made for a powerful couple.
But Crystal’s death left the calm and collected Dragon distraught. She raised their son, Perugias to the best of her abilities, but ultimately died after she was made to deceive the Dragon God.
Hilda Boreas Greyrat
Hilda Boreas Greyrat, like other Greyrat women, was a strong maternal force in the story. As the parent of Eris Boreas Greyrat, she initially didn’t like Rudeus but eventually warmed up to him.
However, she was taken from Eris too soon when both her and her husband, Philip Boreas Greyrat, were found dead by Ghislaine after the Teleportation Incident.
Derrick Redbat
Derrick Redbat was another one of those individuals that laid his life down in service of Ariel Anemoi Asura, the second princess. As royalty, she was often the target of assassination attempts, so Derrick Redbat was employed as her guardian knight.
And he was really loyal to Ariel, often stating that she would be fit for queen despite her many refusals. In the end, he gave his life for Ariel, saving her from a boar that appeared due to the Teleport Incident.
Philip Boreas Greyrat
Despite being cunning and resentful of losing the family heirship to Paul Boreas Greyrat, his brother, Philip Boreas Greyrat was somewhat amicable and even gave Rudeus a job when he needed it.
However, he still secretly schemed to get the upper hand. But it wasn’t long before both he and Hilda Boreas Greyrat, his wife, lost their lives during the Metastasis Event.
First Dragon God
The First Dragon God was the mate of Lunaria, and the father of Orsted. And it is him who becomes the catalyst for everything that conspires afterwards. His fight with the Demon God, and Hitogami’s influence on the Five Dragon Generals lead to the great being becoming weak and bedridden.
Still, as a benevolent God and leader, the First dragon God doesn’t give up. He lays the groundwork for defeating Hitogami to the future generation, and then goes to fight the False Human God in the Human World. However, it is presumed that he died when neither he nor Hitogami could be found after.
Gablin
So, Mushoku Tensei is filled with these misguided Adventurers that sadly die due to one reason or the other. And Gablin is another one of those poor souls who meets his end during battle.
Originally hailing from the Demon Continent, Gablin ended up joining the Tokurabu Village Toughs Party. But sadly, they were ambushed by monsters near the Petrified Forest and Gablin was the casualty.
Kaunis Freean Asura
The third prince of the Asura Kingdom was not nearly as targeted as their descendants, namely Ariel. But Kaunis Freean Asura, First Of His Name, was crowned following the Laplace incident, which means that the country was ushering in a new time after the first Human-Demon War had concluded.
And he was a good king, helping Asura avoid turmoil after said war. And so, he passed away during a relatively peaceful time.
Gal Farion
Gal Farion’s death rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way, solely because it was so unbelievable. I mean, we are talking about the Sword God, part of the Seven Great Powers and master of the Sword God Style. So, how was he defeated by Eris Greyrat and Ruijerd, of all people?
I mean, Eris was his pupil and maybe that matters. But some argue that his death was inevitable. Gal had gotten old and doubtful of his abilities, so of course Eris and Ruijerd would get the upper hand.
Jalil
The Rugonian race is known for their reptilian features, and Jalil was no different. He was an adventurer but later joined the Dead End Party as a temporary member.
Though, that latter part wasn’t by choice. You see, he was initially a pet shop owner but got blackmailed into becoming a petty criminal. Last we knew, he was killed during a skirmish while trying to tame a magical beast.
Malta
Malta proves that you should never judge an Ogre by their appearance, because despite his appearance, the Ogre God was actually pretty kind and generous. He only focused on the well being of his people, refusing to attack anyone without any need to.
However, after he pledges his allegiance to Rudeus, he leads his people into the final war where he sadly gets killed. However, it took the combined forces of Badigaldi, Atofe and Kalman II to weaken Malta, which is pretty hardcore.
Kalman I
The First North God certainly held up the start of a legacy. As he was versed in the North God Style, he was one of the only people to ever defeat the Demon King Laplace, alongside the Perugius Dola and Dragon God Urupen.
But every great person must pass the torch on someday, and so Kalman I eventually died and left his son, Kalman II to take up the mantle of the new North God.
Nucklegard
Am I counting two individuals as a singular entity here? Yes. And no one is going to say anything about it. Nucklegard are, well, two twins named Nuckle and Gard.
Together, they make up the Twin Blades under the North God. They were tasked to kill Ariel Anemoi Asura but were eventually slain by Eris Boreas Greyrat during the assassination attempt.
Laws
Most fans have a general soft spot for Sylphiette, who went on to become one of Ariel’s personal bodyguards. But not many people know about the fate of her dad, Laws, who happened to be a hunter that worked with Paul Greyrat.
Laws doted on his little girl, especially considering how much she was bullied. But sadly, he seemed to have lost his life during the Mana Calamity.
Maxwell
Maxwell was the first of the Five Dragon generals appointed by the Dragon God himself. Hailing from the Dark Dragon tribe, he was not known for a gentle personality. Instead, the man was crude and the first to jump into war.
But while people might have not appreciated his bluntness, those close to him remembered him for his bravery and willingness to put the Dragon tribes first. It is assumed that he passed away sometime after the Demon World collapsed.
Reida Reia
Look, I get she wasn’t the greatest person but Reida Reia was one of the older women in Mushoku Tensei who was also a baddie. Like, do you know how rare that is in Isekai? Known as the Water God, she was the strongest swordsman of the generation, which is no small feat.
So, it’s only fitting that she met her end at the hands of Orsted, who is the current strongest being in the series. Though she fought valiantly, it only took one blow to her heart to kill. But that didn’t stain her legacy.
Darius Silva Ganius
Not going to lie here, we love seeing pig-headed politicians get axed. And Darius Silva Ganius had it coming. As the Prime Minister of the Asura Kingdom, he was vile, kidnapping young noble women to fulfill his own unhinged desires.
Later on, he became one of Hitogami’s disciples, gaining more power. But when his crimes came to light, he was stricken down by Ghislain Dedoldia in an act of poetic revenge.
Paul Greyrat
Paul Greyrat made plenty of mistakes in his life, but no one could argue that he wasn’t a skilled warrior, becoming trained in all three sword styles. After all, what else would you expect from Rudeus’s father?
But when his family got dispersed and lost following the Teleportation Incident, he only found solace after reuniting with Rudeus. And that is how he dies, being snapped in half while trying to save his son from the Hydra’s attack.
Sauros Boreas Greyrat
Eris’s grandfather, Sauros Boreas Greyrat, played an incredible role in Rudeus’s and Eris’s relationship. As he would, considering how close he was to his granddaughter, to the point where Eris inherited many of his mannerisms.
He was the first to whip Rudeus into shape and simultaneously lend his approval when he did grow into a better noble. Alas, he was executed for what was believed to be a failure in protecting the Fittoa Region after the Teleport Incident.
Pax Shirone
I can’t exactly feel sad for Pax Shirone and his life. He started out as yet another nasty little character who loved exploiting others, but eventually we learned that his worst habits manifested from a deep seated insecurity complex that never got resolved.
And we did see him turn a new leaf afterwards, becoming more diligent towards his duties. Sadly, trauma such as Pax’s isn’t so easy to resolve and so he became more susceptible to Hitogami’s manipulation and eventually commits suicide.
Rudeus
I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen a protagonist truly die in an Isekai, and stay dead. But yes, Rudeus Greyrat himself dies after the events of Mushoku Tensei. Sure, he had accomplished a lot, and had sired kids and grandkids. But eventually, he passed away as well, as most great heroes do. However, it is said that it was grief that caught upto him, losing Eris who was his true soul mate.
Well, this is the comprehensive list for all of the characters that have lost their lives in Mushoku Tensei! However, expect this list to get edited because first of all, the story of Mushoku Tenseihasn’t ended yet. And secondly, the series itself has zero chill when it comes to killing off characters. So, maybe take this list with a grain of salt? Until next time!
