This year has seen some top-notch anime releases. Between newer adaptations that quickly became fan favorites, we also saw some beloved classics coming back for sequel seasons. We’ve had an amazing start to the anime year, and it doesn’t look like the hype train is slowing down, even in Fall 2022.
With Spring, we got hits such as Spy X Family, My Dress-Up Darling, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean Part 1. Summer, too, looks promising with scheduled sequels of favorites like Made In Abyss Season 2 and Classroom Of The Elite Season 2. I mean, that alone would be enough to guarantee a successful anime year. But no, anime studios are working overtime.
The fall anime season is usually a quieter affair compared to the rest of the seasons, with big-name releases being reserved for the end of the year. There’s always one or two adaptations people are excited about every season. You may get a few Halloweens OVAs. Maybe a horror-themed release as well? But never has it been as jampacked as this year’s schedule.
I mean, listen. We’re getting new Bleach, My Hero Academia, and Gundam content back-to-back, within one month? Talk about a powerhouse! And keeping up with the spooky vibe of autumn, a Junji Ito anime is slated for October too?
Anime fans are eating well this year. It can’t get any better than this. Here’s our list of anime releases that are giving us goosebumps this Fall!
Table of Contents
1. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Arc
It’s Bleach. Need I say more?
Part of the Big Three – with Naruto and One Piece – Bleach enjoyed immense popularity in the anime world. Although it ended its manga run in 2016, the anime itself was canceled back in 2012 with no conclusion. That is, up until 2020. When buzz arose around the final arc, The Thousand-Year Blood War, finally being animated, people lost it.
The Quincy Army will be returning for the last battle, led by Yhwach, in a bid to destroy both the Human World and the Soul Society. And so, will we finally see Ichigo and Yhwach face off? Will they animate the 10-year skip as well? The original anime was left at a cliff-hanger, so it’s no wonder people are excited.
Bleach fans can finally see the end in October 2022.
2. I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss
Lovers of Isekai–Otome hybrids will be intrigued to know about this one. The anime adaptation of I’m The Villainess, So I’m Taming The Final Boss has been scheduled to air this year.
The story follows your typical Otome tropes, where the female lead is reincarnated into her favorite romance novel/game. But in the case of Aileen Lauren Dautriche, our protagonist, she’s the villain! When her engagement to Prince Cedric Jeanne Elmir gets broken, she remembers the plot she’s living through. Aileen realizes she’s about to meet her doom and needs to do something to change the story’s end, quick. However, her memory is about as substantial as bad fanfiction.
So, the only one she can trust to help fill in the blanks? Why, it’s the final boss of the game aka the rival, Prince Claude Jeanne Elmir. Will our strong villainess be able to win over the shy demon lord?
A hilarious take on the ‘villainess-finds-love’ trope, the anime adaptation is getting an October 2022 release.
3. My Hero Academia Season 6
I think if there is any show that’s gotten attention universally like the Big Three used to, it’s My Hero Academia. So, it comes as no surprise that the hit Shonen series will be getting its 6th season this year.
The story will continue with Deku and the gang at U.A. High during the Paranormal Liberation Front War arc. After receiving intel from Tartarus and the Hawks, our Heroes have gathered all the information they need to take on the Paranormal Liberation Front. The PLF is a villain supergroup, commanded by Tomura Shigaraki.
Animation studio Bones and CrunchyRoll have revealed that the show will start broadcasting in October 2022.
4. Uzumaki
What is autumn without a little fear and fright? Junji Ito is known as a legend in the manga industry for revolutionizing the horror genre. And he recently announced that an anime based on his work, Uzumaki, is coming out this fall. Talk about timing!
Uzumaki tells the harrowing tale of Kurouzu-Cho, a cursed town situated on the Japanese coast. Kirie Goshima is our narrator in this twisted tale of ruins and body horror. Shuichi Saito, her boyfriend, is the first to notice that their quiet town isn’t haunted by a person or creature, but rather a pattern: The Uzumaki spiral.
Horror aficionados can expect to see this Lovecraftian epic spiraling on their screens in October 2022.
5. In/Spectre Season 2
Joining the other supernatural releases of fall, In/Spectre is a popular mystery romance anime based on a novel of the same name.
Kuro Sakuragawa, freshly heartbroken, meets Kotoko Iwanaga, a girl who had proclaimed she was in love with Kuro 2 years ago. And turns out, she is a Goddess of Wisdom, whose job is to serve as a mediator between the earthly realm and the spiritual world. Kuro doesn’t buy it until, of course, he sees her fighting a demon. Soon Kuro turns out to be a monster himself, so he agrees to aid the cute goddess in her duties.
This story of unlikely allies will air in October 2022.
6. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 6 Stone Ocean Season 2
This show needs no introduction. If you’re an anime enthusiast, you’ve watched at least one arc. After all, there is a JoJo mantle holder for everyone.
This season will be a continuation of the Stone Ocean arc, which focuses on Jotaro Kujo’s daughter, Jolyne. After being in a car accident, Romeo Jisso, her ex, ends up framing her for murder. She is then sentenced to 15 years at the ‘Aquarium’, a prison in Florida. But before she could go in unarmed, her estranged father hands her a pendant with a mysterious power. Of course, we learn that the orchestrator of this mess is none other than a disciple of Dio, waiting to kill her in prison.
Long-time JoJo fans will be happy to know that the Stone Ocean conclusion comes out in October 2022!
7. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury
Gundam is to Japan, what Star Wars is to the West. So, any news of a new Gundam series gets mecha fans hyped.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury is the first new Gundam animation we’re getting since 2015’s Iron-Blooded Orphans. And with only a teaser, it has revealed a huge change from the prior series. Specifically, this series will have a female protagonist.
Aside from a prologue planned for Summer 2022, there isn’t much information available. But the show will premiere sometime in Fall 2022!
8. Welcome to Demon School Iruma-Kun Season 3
Imagine being sold into demon slavery by your parents and, like, the demon proves a better caretaker? That’s what happens in Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-Kun!
The shonen returns with our protagonist Iruma Suzuki, a 14-year-old human, and his adventures at Babyls School For Demons. Also known as the school where his adoptive grandad, the demon Sullivan, is the headmaster. Joined by his friends, the demons Alice Asmodeus and Clara Valac, Iruma must pretend and survive in a world where he is always at the risk of being killed.
Season 3 comes out in October 2022.
9. Pop Team Epic Season 2
We could argue for days over whether Pop Team Epic counts as an anime or not. But what isn’t debatable is the fact that the surreal comedy series is getting a 2nd entertaining season!
Pop Team Epic focuses on two besties, Popuko and Pipimi, and their many bizarre adventures that they encounter by either sheer chance or dumb coincidence. The show has a cult following in Japan and abroad. Likely thanks to its wild episodic plotlines, brash nature, and frequent pop culture parodies.
Fans of the dynamic duo can find them popping onscreen starting October 2022!
10. To Your Eternity Season 2
To You, Eternity was probably the most anticipated and critically acclaimed anime to air last year. After multiple accolades, devotees of the heart-wrenching fantasy will be delighted to know that a sequel season is coming their way.
The story returns with Fushi, an immortal being who can take on multiple forms. At first, he came to Earth as a mere observer but ends up staying after being intrigued by the people he meets. And so, he wanders the Earth over time, absorbing more and more stories of humanity that he comes across. He uses his powers to assimilate and experience the human condition deeply. Soon, he starts developing his own sense of consciousness and will, learning what it means to be truly human.
This artistic tearjerker will be back in Fall 2022 for the 2nd season.
Truly, there is so much anime to anticipate this fall. So, what are you most looking forward to during the spookiest time of year? Sound off below!
