The Four Emperors have been a major fixture in the setting of One Piece for several years now, the most notorious pirate captains in the New World and the closest to discovering Gol D. Roger’s legendary treasure. And some fans wonder if we will ever see the outcome of an Emperor vs Emperor throwdown. Enter today’s question: Kaido or Whitebeard? Strongest Creature vs Strongest Man, who survives?
Fantasy matches between characters have been a staple of the Shonen genre for years, so we figured we’d take this for a spin ourselves. But we must establish some ground rules before starting.
First, we are assuming that this matchup would take place between a Whitebeard before his arrival and eventual demise at Marineford, and a Kaido who would possess all the skills we have seen him display so far. Second, this fight is only between the two Emperors, no crew interference is allowed!
And third, we will be judging the possible victor based on three categories: Stamina, Devil Fruit powers, and whatever information the manga has given so far. So, with all that said, let’s kick this battle of beasts off!
Table of Contents
Stamina And Endurance: Kaido Wins!

The raw strength and stamina of both characters are legendary, fitting their epithets as the World’s Strongest. Kaido’s first canonical appearance sees him jumping off a Sky Island, plummeting from a height of nearly 10,000 meters, and walking away from his site of impact with a complaint of a mild headache. As if that wasn’t enough, we have seen him emerge from a three-day bout with fellow Emperor, Big Mom, unscathed. With no injuries and still looking like he could go another round.
In the opposing corner, Whitebeard’s death is an odd yet perfect example of his inhuman fortitude, as he can effectively tank two direct hits from Admirals Akainu and Kizaru, in addition to an estimated 460 wounds inflicted upon him by both the Marines and Blackbeard Pirates before he ultimately expired. Such resilience would no doubt serve him well in a possible fight with Kaido.
Sadly, as First Division Commander Marco stated during the climax of the events at Marineford, the time has not been kind to Whitebeard. His health has drastically declined in recent years due to both age and his excessive drinking. It won’t be an easy match, but Kaido just might edge out a win here. No matter how narrowly.
Demon Fruit Powers: Whitebeard Wins!

Regarded by Oda himself as the strongest Paramecia type, the Tremor-Tremor Fruit of Whitebeard has been claimed by those high up in the World Government to have the power to destroy the world. And honestly, given what this thing can do? It’s not surprising. It isn’t enough that the fruit can allow one to generate tsunamis triggering earthquakes or the fact that it can allow its user to reshape the terrain and manipulate it as if it were clay, no. It can also cause shockwaves to occur in the air, serving both as an almost impenetrable defensive ability and a widespread attack to knock out multiple foes.
Mythical Zoans seem to be a hot topic in recent chapters so one of the central antagonists of the current arc should harness the power of one as well. Kaido’s Fish-Fish Fruit, Model Azure Dragon pretty much spells out his entire ability list on the cover. Though in addition to becoming a dragon, he can expel a variety of elemental breath attacks along with being able to create flame clouds that can levitate entire islands.
In this case, it’s not even a contest. Whitebeard’s Devil Fruit abilities not only enhance his defensive capabilities but can also deal offense towards pesky airborne enemies with ease. Meaning Whitebeard takes this round!
Canonical Stats: Tie!

And so, we come to the last but shortest round, using what we’ve learned from the now over 1000+ chapters that have been pointed out over the years the conclusion is, well, there is no clear winner.
From what we’ve seen from flashbacks, Whitebeard refused to invade Wano to avenge Kozuki Oden’s death, knowing that such a war against the Beast Pirates would be hard-won, while at the same time Kaido hesitated on taking out his rival until he was distracted with Ace’s execution nearly 3 years ago at the current point in the setting.
So, it ends in a tie. Disappointing? Yes, but such is the case when it comes to evaluating fictional conflicts in Shonen. And so, we continue another time-honored tradition.
Bonus Round: Peak Performance!

Oh, but did you think we were going to leave you hanging without a tiebreaker? The people want a winner, and they’ll get one!
In our humble opinion, PrimeBeard aka Whitebeard at his peak would absolutely wipe the floor with Kaido. Kozuki, a regular swordsman with no special abilities was nearly able to kill him decades ago. So, it stands to reason that PrimeBeard would have little to no difficulty in replicating such a feat and succeeding.
There you have it, folks! Do you agree with our assessment? Let us know who you think would win this epic battle below!
