Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Fourteen-year-old Madoka Kaname dreams of a devastated city where a girl fights a losing battle and a cat-like creature tells Madoka that becoming a magical girl could change the outcome. The next day, the girl from the dream, Homura Akemi, appears at her school as a transfer student and warns her not to change who she is.

Madoka and her friend Sayaka later encounter the same creature, Kyubey, and learn that magical girls truly exist. Kyubey offers each of them any single wish in exchange for a contract requiring them to fight beings called witches, which spread despair through the human world. Homura's warning, however, suggests that the choice carries consequences neither girl yet understands.
