Houtarou Oreki is pulled away from a quiet day at home when his sister ropes him into working as a lifeguard at the local swimming pool. There he runs into the other Classics Club members, and Eru Chitanda's curiosity is sparked when a white object she noticed on a woman's ear mysteriously disappears.
