Seishuu Handa is a talented young calligrapher whose confidence takes a blow when a veteran dismisses his award-winning work as unoriginal. His angry reaction has serious consequences, and his father sends him from Tokyo to the remote Goto Islands to reflect and rediscover his artistic direction. Handa expects quiet surroundings where he can concentrate, but the local community refuses to leave him alone. Energetic child Naru Kotoishi and an assortment of intrusive neighbors repeatedly disrupt his plans, drawing him into rural life while he searches for a more personal style of calligraphy.
