A Lull in the Sea

Humanity once lived entirely beneath the ocean, but generations of people choosing the surface created a lasting division between sea and land communities. When the school in the underwater village of Shioshishio closes, four fourteen-year-old students are forced to continue their education at Mihama Middle School on the surface.

For Manaka Mukaido, Hikari Sakishima, and their friends, changing schools means adapting to a culture that has developed apart from their own. Their struggles are not limited to fitting into a new environment: tensions between sea and land people intersect with friendships and unfamiliar emotions emerging as their childhood begins to end.
