I’ve talked to no end about my love for the Ascendance Of A Bookworm, an Isekai light novel that doesn’t make me want to roll my eyes. It’s just a fantastic take on the genre, with compelling characters and a transmigration story that doesn’t feel forced to make the protagonist look good. And now that we have reached the 3rd season climax in its anime adaptation, fans have a ton of questions. After all, what truly happened at the end of Ascendance Of A Bookworm?
Since Ascendance Of A Bookworm has only been adapted till part 2 of the light novel volumes, we are left at the climax of the ‘Apprentice Shrine Maiden’ arc, where our beloved protagonist Myne has to once again change her identity. Because she is being pursued by the likes of Count Bindlewald and even the High Priest. After her showdown with them, she is forced to make a choice where she can save her attendant, Delia, from a death sentence. But at the cost of her freedom. And thus, Myne is gone, and Rozemyne takes her place.
Sounds confusing? I bet. A lot is going on during this end in Ascendance Of A Bookworm that sets the stage for how Myne will go from this naïve character transported into a magical world for some book reading, to an interesting protagonist with a story of her own. And it will require a lot of personal sacrifices. But that’s exactly what I adore about this anime in the first place. Myne, in particular, is such a gorgeous depiction of an Isekai heroine, one that makes you want to invest more time into the show.
So, needless to say, the ending is a lot more exciting than we were betting on. Stakes are extremely high for Myne and the people she cares about. And, in classic heroine behavior, she is going to make sure that none of the people she cares about end up suffering at her expense. So, what happened at the end of the Ascendance Of A Bookworm anime? Let’s discuss this.

Ascendance Of A Bookworm: From Book-Obsessed Normie To Heroine Of Her Own Story

As I said, this is one of those anime that I’m surprised is so underrated because, let’s be honest, no one is doing Isekai well anymore. Sure, you have a couple of long-standing ones that are still hyped but nothing that offers anything fresh or new. It ends up feeling staler than anything.
But not Ascendance Of A Bookworm. Over here, we don’t just have a ‘loser’ protagonist with a very little actual personality. Because, even before the whole getting Isekai’d part, Urano Motosu aka Myne, was a fulfilled person. Maybe she was a bit of a homebody, absorbed in her love for all things literature, but she had a good life with her mother and even a few friends.
So, her transformation from normal girl Urano to magic keeper of books Myne isn’t as unbelievable, nor does it feel like wish fulfillment. If anything, being transported into a world where books are outlawed sounds like the worst nightmare for the girl. But she made do and did her best with what little she got. And that’s why I adore Ascendance Of A Bookworm. As someone who was also very passionate about reading, there is just something so whimsical about how Myne will go end literal laws forbidding book reading, just to satiate her thirst for knowledge and adventure.
What Happened At The End Of Ascendance Of A Bookworm:

So, as discussed previously, we have arrived at the end of the Shrine Maiden arc in the anime. Which is still fairly early on in the light novel. We know that Myne has fought tooth and nail to keep herself from the clutches of Count Bindlewald and just when all felt like it was on the edge of nothing, Aub Ehrenfest enters, halting all the fighting going on.
From there, Count Bindlewald tries to have Myne reprimanded for the crime of attacking a noble while she was a commoner, but Ehrenfest disregards him. Not only that, but he ends up revealing that Myne is now his adoptive daughter! This means the High Priest and his goonies are taken out and Myne, Delia, and the others are safe.
But this does mean that her family back at home, is no longer going to acknowledge her. She’ll still work with the Gilberta Company, but Tulli and the others will be strangers. And Myne takes that condition, vowing to protect her family to the best of her extent.
It’s a lot to process, with the next arc being how Myne, now Rozmyne, will deal with being a high society noble. But that’s why I’m hoping the 4th season of Ascendance Of A Bookworm is greenlit soon!
