You know, for all the edgy anime I love to consume, I’m more of an enthusiast of the adorable genre. I’ll always be biased towards the cutest, sweetest love story I can find. And boy, do I have a lot of top-notch cutest comfort anime I keep on standby to watch when I’m in my feels.
Like, don’t get me wrong, I love a story that gives me both an adrenaline rush and physical pain when I’m done with it. Give me all the mental trauma that comes from a tragic coupling. I will accept it wholeheartedly while drowning in a pool of my tears. (Yes, Banana Fish, I’m looking at you.)
But after all that anguish, I know I need something to cheer me up. After all, anime is an escape, something that makes you happy even when you’re not feeling your best. And some anime are, like, straight-up booster shots of pure Serotonin to my brain. I mean, who doesn’t like feeling content, right?
Now, I’m not saying that a feel-good cutest anime can solve all your issues, but it certainly helps alleviate some of them. Fluffy cutest anime is just simply the best, better than all the rest. And I have curated the perfect list for those of you looking for a pick-me-up anime during trying times. We are counting down some of the cutest anime you can indulge in, right now!
Table of Contents
1. Sasaki To Miyano
This show only launched at the start of this year and I’ve already rewatched it 3 times.
Sasaki To Miyano is one of those rare romance anime that is just so pure and soft, that you can’t pick out a flaw even if you tried. It’s just the sweetest cast of characters, with great comedic timing and gorgeous visuals that make you grin ear to ear whenever you experience it.
No conflict or tension drives the plot forward, and yet it keeps you engaged. This anime is just plain good, with no if or buts.
2. How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift?
Say hello to muscle waifus!
This anime lifts both your spirits and your abs! It revolves around Sakura Hibiki, an aimless high schooler who ends up enrolling at Silverman Gym because she found the trainer, Nazuro Macchio, cute. But exercise ends up becoming a positive influence, and she makes some new friends along the way!
How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift? explains how healthy habits lead to a healthy mind, without being condescending. And, yes, Nazuro is best boy, period.
3. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!
The New Yorker recognizes this anime as one of the best international shows of 2020. To me, this is a love letter to animation and the child artist in all of us.
Keep Your hands Off Eizouken! is a show that combines the coziness of a good slice-of-life anime with gorgeous animations representing the kind of wild imaginations we all grew up with. It’s oozing with charm, and each character is so profoundly fun and original.
This is a tribute to how weird and unique anime can be, and just how much joy the medium brings to its audience.
4. Kiss Him, Not Me
Kiss Him, Not Me should not be relatable. And yet, here I am, in all my Fujoshi glory, laughing at every antic this rom-com pulls.
It’s got cute boys, hilarious comedy, and, the most relatable protagonist with 0 self-awareness. Meet Kae Serinuma, and how her despair for a character dying leads her to lose weight, making her every guy’s dream girl. But all she wants is for those guys to kiss each other!
This was such a refreshing take on the reverse harem trope. My God if I didn’t enjoy her every fantasy with the same zeal as when I picked up my first yaoi doujinshi. (It was SasuNaru. I regret nothing.)
5. Bloom Into You
There are just some anime that touch your heart without needing any shock factor to sell their authenticity. Bloom Into You is one of those anime.
This coming-of-age story between two girls and their developing affection is so raw, but gentle and sweet at the same time. It plays around with tropes usually seen in yuri romances, and yet never seems like it’s trying too hard.
This anime proves that, at the heart of every whirlwind romance, there is a beautiful and strong friendship first. And that’s how love should be: soft, tender, and fuzzy as all hell.
6. ToraDora!
ToraDora was a no-brainer. I just had to include it or the Shojou gods would smite me on sight.
You got your Tsundere spitfire, the lovable best friend and a male lead that is just so done with his life, I can’t help but want to hug him. The bumbling couple that is Taiga Aisaka and Ryuji Takasu is one of anime’s most beloved pairings for a reason, after all. Their interactions are just so cute, albeit frustrating. But isn’t that half the fun of this anime i.e., the pining and misunderstandings between the characters?
This show is such an entertaining and adorable watch, the pinnacle of rom-com done right.
7. Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie
Strong! Women! Rule! And I will hear no slander against them!
Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie only recently got its anime adaptation but it’s already become a fast favorite of Spring 2022. Izumi and Shikimori are your everyday high school couple until Shikimori turns into this ice-cold heroine out to protect her boyfriend (and steal our hearts!). The role reversal just works so well here! I mean, I love how anime has started subverting its tropes, with an emphasis on more dominant female leads while remaining light-hearted and fuzzy!
Shikimori is definitely one of my top waifus this year.
8. Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War
We’re on the 3rd season of Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War, and yet it somehow still brings something new to keep you hooked.
This anime was the cutest breakout hit that never stopped delivering. The character dynamics are so fun, and who can forget the amazing openings? But I think the real strength lies in how the tension between Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane, our two love interests, never gets stale.
Their shenanigans are hilarious every single time and combine that with the rest of the Student Council, you have something special. And if Chika doesn’t make you smile, then you’re plain heartless!
9. Spy x Family
Anya Forger is the cutest character in anime history, and you need to watch Spy x Family ASAP!
I mean, a show about spies, assassins, and international conspiracies, being offset by the cutest found family plotline ever? Sure, the action and comedy are solid, but what sells you here are the growing bonds between Yor and Loid Forger, despite the fake marriage aspect. And how both come to adore and protect this strange child with no real blood connection between them. Sign me up to be adopted by the Forgers right now!
This show is already on the fast track to becoming the Cutest Anime Of The Year, and you can easily see why!
10. My Dress-Up Darling
Marin Kitagawa is a gem and I love how proud she is of her authenticity. More self-confident female leads, please!
As a cosplayer, My Dress-Up Darling already scratches an itch. But top it off with a couple that has genuinely good chemistry between them and how well they bounce off each other despite being opposites, and you’ve got me invested like nothing else. Not only is the show incredibly enjoyable, but it’s also so unapologetic with how awkward teenage crushes can get, as proven by Gojo Wakana’s panic regarding his growing affections.
Also, weirdly enough, this might be the one anime where the dub makes it better? I know, blasphemous but don’t knock it till you try it!
There you have it, folks! These are some of my favorite cutest and fuzzy anime. Let me know if your comfort watch made the cut! Until next time.
