Is Mato Seihei No Slave Worth Watching?

Status checked July 18, 2026: Chained Soldier is no longer awaiting an adaptation. Season 1 aired in early 2024, and season 2 premiered in January 2026.

Mato Seihei no Slave, released in English as Chained Soldier, is a manga by Takahiro and Yohei Takemura. Its television anime premiered in January 2024 and returned for a second season in January 2026.

The reason why such a prime manga series is getting an anime adaptation is the fact that it is written by Takahiro, the author of Akame Ga Kill - one of the best anime series ever made. It has topped the charts on its release date and still continues to do so.

No wonder the hype for Chained Soldier is at an all-time high. But the question is; is it really worth watching? Let's get down to what it's all about and why it should be on your "must watch list"!

What is Mato Seihei No Slave?

The story talks about a demon-filled dimension, called Mato, that mysteriously opened up and a type of peach tree that grows there and gives special powers to the one who eats its fruits, but here's the catch, it only works for women. With over-powered female characters who now steal the limelight and men are relegated to second-class citizens that look for the basic necessities and knowledge.

To counter the growing demons that have slowly escaped the demon realm, the government organizes a team of highly trained and strong women who will fight against them (yes, the entire force is made up of women). After rescuing a high school kid who by some chance ended up at the entrance of Mato gate, the chief of the Seventh Anti-Demon Corps Unit, Kyoka Uzen decides to take him under her wing after saving him.

Seeing the effect the young boy had on her peach ability, she decides to give him a notable job as her slave. Not having much of a say here, Yuuki Wakura accepts her proposal, even though the offer was quite the eyebrow-raiser. She then turns him into a mighty beast mount that stomps and destroys the monsters. Despite the notable position and the satisfaction that comes with being her slave, there is a price to pay for it all but it's not Yuuki who will have to reap what he sows.

Is Mato Seihei No slave worth the Hype?

With fans calling it a guilty pleasure with slightly more depth and animation than any cliché fan service series, the hype for the anime is every bit justified. What took everyone aback was that it was the same author as the one who wrote Akame Ga Kill, considered one of the grimmest, hardcore anime with a striking plot twist.

The powerful characters complement each other. And then comes Chained Soldier, with the similar art style, out-of-this-world fighting scenes, and some of the best ecchi moments that you could possibly ever imagine, with little to no fan service, something that we didn't expect from old man Takahiro.

Mato Seihei No Slave: Plot

With a storyline that has great potential, loads of ecchi moments, and graphical fight scenes that make you read more and more of the manga, no wonder the manga series sold over 1 million copies, my bet is at least more than half are guys.

A single male, dominated in a society filled with superhuman women, where he gets to be the slave of the 7th tier's Captain and if he performs well, he will be rewarded in a very ecchi way. Seems like a legitimately good storyline to me.

So you must be wondering, is it worth all that hype? In comparison to much other similar manga series, Chained Soldier is relatively way better. The wonderful art style, the character development, and the high ecchi element make this manga a whole lot better. Not to mention, each chapter has something new to add to the story, making the reader get hooked to the whole series.

Chained Soldier: Release Information

The anime announcement discussed here led to a 12-episode first season in 2024. A second season followed in January 2026 with Passione and Hayabusa Film handling animation production.
