I feel like that of all the countless characters across anime, Son Goku stands out as being the one to beat. It makes sense why. He belongs to one of the first Shonen franchises that sold well enough internationally, making himself a mainstay in numerous homes and becoming near superhero levels of popularity. There are very few characters with a similar legacy. But because of this, you see him being pitted against everyone under the sun. Even in his franchise, like with Beerus.
Now, between the Super Saiyan with a heart of gold and the literal God of Destruction, Lord Beerus would be the stronger choice. As it is right now, I don’t think Goku has the power to surpass him. Which, I know, he’s the main character of his show. So, at some point, he will be able to overpower Beerus. But not in his current state, where Beerus defeated him in a fight with no more than two hits. He isn’t so feared for no reason, you know?
But the thing is, when you compare the amount of evolution Goku has gone through already within the history of Dragon Ball, it’s not hard to imagine a time when he would completely take over every character it has to offer. He has so many transformations for fans to sift through, that there might be one that will eventually overpower most characters in the show. This is why when we give answers to whether Goku will against insert character here, it isn’t always accurate.
Because realistically, you never know when Goku will eventually grow so OP that he’ll be able to go toe to toe with said character. That’s just the Dragon Ball formula at play. But what about characters like Zeno and Beerus? This is why Character Versus exists – so we can take the strongest characters across the Animesphere and put them against each other to see who’ll be coming out on top. Today, it’s Beerus The Destroyer VS Kakkarot himself!
Lord Beerus: Bringing The Pain On!
Beerus earned his status as God of Destruction. With his power levels being 3 billion at 100%, he is a force to be reckoned with.
Not only has he defeated Vegeta before, but also conquered Goku without resorting to even a fraction of his full strength. Hell, he can probably take both of them on at the same time, at least currently. Like, he is feared by some of the top dogs across Dragon Ball, so underestimating him is a fool’s choice.
His power, which depends upon Ki wave displacement, can reduce surrounding planets to rubble if he isn’t careful. He can also utilize the Ultra Instinct skill to an extent, and take full advantage of the Hakai without tiring out. With special attacks such as the Sphere of Destruction and the Destruction before Creation, it’s no wonder why he’s the second strongest fighter in the Multiverse as we speak. Again, he KO’d Vegeta in one go. That’s no small feat.
Son Goku: The Protagonist Advantage?
Now, how does our powerful protagonist fare in all of this? Here’s the scoop: As of currently, Goku has a couple of transformations under his belt alongside a mystery red-white form that fans think can surpass most beings in the Universe.
But until that is completely revealed, let’s say Ultra Instinct Goku is the most powerful evolution he has. And it is leaps and bound ahead of most of his Super Saiyan forms. And his control over it is stronger than Beerus’s. And it isn’t known as the ‘state of the Gods’ for no trivial reason.
It is indeed so powerful, that it can make its wielder fight at a level without even needing conscious thought. It surpasses something like Super Saiyan Blue because of how formidable and complex the technique can be. And Goku was able to perfect it during his fight with Jiren.
However, the biggest factor in Goku’s winning would be his plot armor as the main character. Maybe not now, maybe not in a few arcs, but eventually Goku overpowers all. That’s just the nature of being a Shonen protagonist, after all.
Winner: It’s Beerus (For Now)
Goku has lost and will continue losing to Beerus until a new transformation is unlocked. Beerus was able to defeat Vegeta, who was strong than Ultra Instinct Goku at the time.
As it stands, Beerus is way too OP, and he knows it.
